5Classic design, well executedSep 30, 2007
By edfan "edfan"
This set looks and feels simple, casual, sturdy and classic. The forks and spoons (especially the spoons) are weighty in the hand. They feel like hotel or cruise line flatware, heavy and solid.

The knife is the odd one out, a bit. It feels hollow in the handle. They could have left a little bit more metal inside for weight. However, the shape is so good in the hand, the unexpectedly light weight is soon forgotten. Don't be afraid of the short blade, it puts as much "knife" into the food as you'd use anyway. It cuts nicely and is balanced well enough.

The spoons are notable. They are smooth on the edges and extremely firm, you never have to worry about spooning out ice cream, these handles won't bend.

Another notable: the shine. Most people exaggerate when they say something is polished like a mirror. In this case, it's true. I bought this set for use at beaches and parks but I now use them daily.

The design and heft are worth the money.

5Excellent set of flatwareJan 19, 2009

I purchased this set of flatware for my sister's family after some research on the premium utensil company of Zwilling JA Henckel. Surprisingly, this company has decided to dilute its image by selling a secondary quality line under the "JA Henckel International" label which is made in China using inferior materials. I had a choice between this (already discounted) set for another set of the "International" brand which held nearly twice as many utensils for a cheaper price, but the numerous negative reviews of the "international" version set me straight - usually complaining of he inability to wash it in the dishwasher without heavy scratching due to the inferior butter-soft quality of the secondary label's stainless steel. So overall, I recommend this product especially over its inferior brethren.

5Love this one!Mar 02, 2008

The Vintage silverware by J.A. Henckels is just beautiful. The feel of the silverware when eating is really nice - very smooth and not tinny feel or taste. I like the true antique style of this one.

5What you see is truly what you getFeb 12, 2009

FYI, I haven't seen it mentioned in any other review - this set is made in China. Also, what might be confusing is that even the box, itself, says that it includes a "hostess set" but it's not the same one that's for sale separately. It's the 3 pieces that are listed in the item description. I just received them today (I ordered 2 sets), and I haven't had a chance to test them out yet. However, I'm real happy with my purchase. I've shopped around for flatware at Target and Macy's and Target's selection in store is very low-quality and it runs for the same price as these (when these are on sale, that is)! And with Macy's, I couldn't find any that had the grade of stainless steel comparable to this set (18/10 - most were 18/0). I truly think these were well worth my money - if you want better, you might as well invest in silverware, then, but who needs to when you have these!

4Great quality for the price paidMay 10, 2009

After much comparison shopping for a decent set of flatware that would be attractively sturdy without necessitating a second mortgage to finance, I took a chance on ordering this (3 sets on sale) from Amazon. The quality is very good - yes, you CAN scoop hard ice cream out of the carton with a teaspoon w/o bending the stem (this seemed to be the gold standard test in many other flatware reviews.) The only problem I've had is the discoloring of the butter knife blades, a common problem in other flatware sets (probably because the knife blade has to be much thinner than the rest of set.) Otherwise, very recommended.
