4Good slotted turner!Aug 21, 2011
By Ted K "ATedK"
My thirty year old long stainless pancake and all around excellent turner is starting to fail from metal fatigue. When the crack first started forming I started shopping for a new turner. Talk about culture shock; every turner I checked out seemed like absolute junk or seriously overpriced. Most were either far too stiff or ridiculously floppy.

Even the famed Wusthof, Dexter, MIU and others were too stiff or too floppy. As my old turner comes closer to the final turn, I finally took a chance on this Wusthof since it seemed like the best compromise. At first, I was disappointed since the turner was smaller than I expected. Using the turner is the clincher. After just a couple of days, this turner became my go-to stovetop utensil. It has been my preferred turner for several months now.

Pro
+Excellent control! Light and flexible, but stiff enough to work the fond into a sauce without scratching the pan or making one work too hard at it.
+Does great at lifting/flipping items without losing the browned cruchy surfaces.

Cons:
-I really dislike plastic handles and yes, the handle on this turner is plastic which places it at risk when working with a pan on high heat. Where I would normally just leave the turner in the pan, I now create one more item to be washed by using a spoon rest.
-This turner does not have a progressive backbone. Meaning that as the turner is flexed it does not get much stiffer. A moot negative since I was unable to find any new turners that are progressive.

I gave this item four stars instead of five because of the plastic handle.

5My new favorite straight slotted flat spatulaApr 05, 2011
By D. Henderson
I've been using my Wusthof Gourmet 7 1/2-Inch Slotted Spatula when cooking items like fish filets or fried eggs (no egg rings) and any food items that has a fairly large surface area.

As I use this spatula, I find that the smaller head on this spatula has better control for smaller cooked items like fried eggs (when I use an egg ring) and scallops. So compared to my Rosle 12.6" Perforated Angled Spatula I prefer this spatula. The larger openings does a better job of draining foods but more importantly, those openings help grip the food so there is less sliding when compared to my Rosle. There is a slight upward curve at the center of this Wusthof spatula while the Rosle 12.6" Perforated Angled Spatula is flat in the center with a curved front edge.

Because the head is straight, left or right handed people can use this spatula unlike the Wusthof Gourmet 7 1/2-Inch Slotted Spatula.

The spatula does not have a full tang but Wusthof did a great job of making the handle fit tight to the metal spatula so there is less space for food or grease to get trapped.

This spatula is well made from Germany.

PROS:
Has better control when flipping smaller items like eggs made in an egg ring or scallops.
Because the head is straight, it will work with left or right handed people.
Looks and feels like a well made tool from Germany and it's not made in China.

CONS:
The plastic handle is not heat resistant (will melt slightly if left on a hot pan).
The spatula does not have a full tang which could add slightly better balance to the spatula and justify the cost.
