Description:

The Mezzaluna is a staple of Italian kitchens, named after its shape Half-Moon this knife is used for cutting herbs and making pesto. The mezzaluna also makes cutting onions and celery a joy. The rocking action of the blade cuts much like the action of a cooks knife. It's perfect for chopping, dicing, and mincing of veggies, herbs and spices. It's quicker and safer than a straight-bladed knife. You use a rocking motion when using this knife. Place food on a cutting board and rock the blade back and forth. A skilled chef will never remove the blade from the cutting surface. This is a quick and safe form of mincing. Wusthof uses a special blend of German steel through out the whole length of the knife. Wusthof not only uses the best materials to make a fine knife, but it is also crucial that each blade is precisely tempered. This tempering allows the knife to hold its edge for an extremely long time. Mezzalunas also resemble the Alaskan Ulu knife

4Jamie Oliver's suggestion - and a good oneAug 29, 2011
By Mike1250
I purchased several Jamie Oliver cook books and noticed that he strongly recommends chopping fresh herbs and other items. He makes frequent references to a Mezzaluna and how efficiently it works to chop items by hand. I love Wusthof knives and decided that only a Wusthof Mezzaluna would be appropriate for my kitchen. I found this knife to work very well, holds a sharp edge and cuts efficiently. The handles are substantial - important for serious chopping! Highly recommend this knife. If Wusthof made a larger Mezzaluna I would purchase it for cutting high volume vegetables and herbs.

5Need a holderJul 02, 2011

It's great, but does ANYONE know where I can find a holder or a stand for it? Right now, it just sits flat on my table or in the drawer, and I would really to be able to stand it upright. I know they make them because I've seen them (in random youtube videos).
The mezzaluna by itself is exactly what I expected. Could have used a little more blade length, but it's not a huge complaint. You do have to be careful about cleaning it, though, after you're done. You have to make sure it's dried completely, otherwise you'll see spots on the blade, that'll take away from the shiny look.
