I bought Wedgwood Nantucket dinnerware a few years ago at one of our leading department stores - I was buying dinnerware for my new home so I had to buy everything (dinner plates, soup plates, salad plates, cups, etc., etc. - the whole works) and so I bought a lot of individual pieces from Wedgwood's Nantucket collection . Was very pleased with the quality and design. Unfortunately, over the course of years a few of the plates broke and I was looking to replace them. I was so excited when I spotted this set on amazon - it has almost all of the pieces I was trying to replace and for the price it's being sold here I thought it was going to be a great bargain. I ordered it the minute I saw it here and was really looking forward to receiving this set. Well, it arrived today and I couldn't be more disappointed - I thought this set would match the Wedgwood Nantucket plates and cups I already own perfectly, after all, it's the same collection, same manufacturer, so I thought they had to match...well, they didn't. I don't mean the look as they do look alike, I mean the quality. I don't know if it's just this set, or if Wedgwood's 5-piece settings differ from individual pieces or if the quality of their Nantucket collection went down over the years, but this set's quality appeared inferior when compared to my older Wedgwood Nantucket pieces. It's everything - the quality of the bone china itself (it looks and feels rough, not at all as smooth and delicate as my older Wedgwood pieces), the relief design on the edges of the plates (when you turn these plates over you still can sort of see it, not so with my older plates - when you turn those over, the surface is absolutely smooth), even the stamps on plates and on the bottom of the cup appear different - a lot more pale, some of them blurred or smudged. The Wedgwood Nantucket pieces that I'd bought previously are very high quality, great craftsmanship, they look and feel delicate, smooth, polished, if not sophisticated, fine china indeed. This set looks and feels rough, coarse, hastily thrown together, and, most importantly, CHEAP (and the price tag on it is everything but (cheap)). Nothing fine about this fine china set. If I had never seen Wedgwood Nantucket pieces before and had nothing to compare this set to, may be I would have liked it (I doubt it though), but I've come to expect a lot more from Wedgwood. This 5-piece setting is not even worth its sale price as Wedgwood's usual quality is simply not there.
P.S. I was also very disappointed with the packaging that Amazon used - it was so flimsy it's a miracle these plates and cup didn't arrive shattered to pieces - the box this set arrived in was way too small, nowhere on the box did it say "fragile" and they only included a few air pillow bags, most of them deflated. I had to use my own bubble wrap when repackaging this set to send it back. I've been a loyal Amazon customer for many years and I don't enjoy writing negative reviews, but I'm extremely disappointed with this purchase.

My husband and I registered for the Nantucket Basket china pattern for our wedding. We received nearly the entire set including platters and other serving pieces. If you are looking for a classic, no fuss, beautiful, dishwasher safe, microwave safe china pattern, look no further!
This fine bone china is perfect for the modern world - It is beautiful on any table - and can be dressed up with chargers and napkins - you can ALWAYS change the look and formality of plain white china - it's so versatile! Not to mention, clean-up is a breeze because of the dishwasher safe feature!
My husband and I use these dishes every day - we use them as our every day dinnerware as well as fine china for entertaining - we love it so much and cannot recommend it more!
We agreed on this pattern because of the fact that the basketweave pattern is very classic as well as modern - as it's been around for years (i think it's been a Wedgwood pattern for nearly 25 years) - It has staying power for replacements and also - it STILL looks modern - which was important to us in finding china - something that will remain beautiful for decades to come!

I purchased four place settings, sugar bowl and creamer as a gift. It was well received! This is high quality china with a beautiful pattern. I highly recommend this product.

This is a beautiful set of china. You can dress it up for special occasions yet it is practical enough for everyday. I liked I could buy pieces as my budget allowed. I waited a long time to be able to purchase this pattern but it was well worth the wait. It is microwave safe yet classic.

False Advertizing of an excellent productMay 23, 2010

In the Amazon/The Bowl Company add it was clearly indicated that a rim bowl was included for free in each place place setting ordered. The Bowl Company agreed indicated that he would make good on that representation in the advertisement. Later, The Bowl Company refused to honor their promise and Amazon did nothing to correct the situation either. Both Companies need an "ethics" course as I will never do business with them in the future!
