5Fills a specific need perfectlyOct 28, 2009
By James Mcilvain "Jimmy Mac"
It is almost impossible to find a stand-alone CD player these days (you get stuck with a multiple-disc player or a DVD/CD combo player). The TEAC PHE300mkIII CD Player doesn't have a bunch of silly features that you will never use. It just plays CDs (MP3/CD-R/CD-RW). The unit is a great compact size and has an aluminum housing (not cheap plastic) and a beautiful brushed black aluminum front plate. The unit has the heft of a quality audio component. I have two of them and use them for mixing music. They are super easy to cue up and play instantly when you hit play. I didn't even have to read the instructions. If you are looking for a simple CD player to hook into your system and you don't want to invest months reading the owner's manual, you will love this quality player.

5For an entry-level CD Player, this is hard to beatApr 30, 2010
By C. Yew "Haven K."
This TEAC CD player is solidly build and has the bonus of being able to play MP3 and WMA files on a CD-R or CD-RW. In this age when so many people listen to MP3s, this is certainly an attractive preposition: you can burn them on a CD-RW and then reburn them over and over again when you decide to listen to a new set of songs or music. You can burn the MP3s to very decent quality and still carry hundreds of MP3s on one CD-RW. This player is especially useful if you are intending to listen to audiobooks, where the ability to compress sound files at lower bitrates is priceless.

The TEAC PD-H300mkIII player is made of brushed grey aluminium and seems to be housed in a very solid chassis. It seems everything is well built yet the player does not appear excessively heavy, although it is still 3.2 pounds. The sound quality is also good for a player at so low a price. As been mentioned in a Goodsound review, soundstage depth and its midrange clarity are the main strengths of this player,; paired with a good integrated amplifier, this can be the mainstay of an entry-level system or a second bedroom system. I highly recommend this product if you can get it at a discounted rate. If you are considering a dedicated CD player around the price of $200 this player is a no-brainer. The only competitor I can think of in this price range which performs as adequately would be the NAD C515BEE. Yet the NAD is $100 more expensive than this. If you don't want to splash on a CD player and yet want to get away with excellent value and good sound, the TEAC Reference PD-300mkIII CD Player certainly offers the best bang for the buck.

5Won't find better for $99Jun 08, 2010
By Jay Y. Hodgson "Jay"
Is this the best cd player on the planet? No. But it's certainly a very excellent cd player. It's certainly the best cd player you'll ever find for $99. The details it is able to pull out of the cds is amazing. The sonic characteristic of it is very neutral and linear. The dac in it is very good--it does away with a lot of the "digital harshness" found in cheaper cd and DVD players. For those of you using a cheap DVD player as your cd player and are looking to upgrade to a dedicated cd player, consider this little gem. Great player. Great price. You won't be disappointed.

5Simple CD Player With Small FootprintJul 16, 2010
By dan93309 "dan93309"
For the amount I paid (less than $100), this is an amazing value. The machine quickly reads and plays CDs and has a small footprint so it takes up little space. It sits next to my Trends TA-10.1 T-amp, and that combination driving some NHT SuperOne's Xu sound great. The improvement in sound is huge from when I was using an iPod as a source. The dynamic range in classical music and the amount of detail retrieved is so much better on this cd player than from my iPod. Please note that it takes a few days of playing music for this cd player to sound its best. My unit arrived with a remote control. Please note there is no volume control on this unit, which may be an issue if you are connecting it directly to an amplifier instead of a preamp or integrated amp. In any event, this is a simple cd player that sounds a notch above the cheap DVD players that also play CDs, it reads and loads CDs quickly, has a remote, and a small footprint. I would buy this again and recommend to a friend. Great job TEAC!
