3Does what it's supposed to do, but with caveatsMar 04, 2007
By B. Compton "all-around okay guy"
I've been searching far and wide for a tiny mixer like this one. My audio setup as it stands is a Sonic Impact T-Amp hooked to some speakers with a Squeezebox as the only source. I wanted to hook up my turntable and a CD player to the same system. The T-Amp is tiny, and almost everything else you can buy for this solution is a giant Stereo Receiver that has an amplifier built-in--I had no reason to replace the T-Amp, as it is awesome. Something like this product seemed perfect.

Unfortunately, I never got very far with it. With all of the level knobs cranked all the way up, this device attenuates the signal level FAR too much for me to use it with the Squeezebox. I never even bothered to set it up to use the turntable (through a Behringer phono preamp) and a CD player. I had to turn the volume on the Squeezebox AND the volume on the T-Amp up near their maximums to get it to a level I was used to with settings far lower without the Rolls Mini Mixer in the way.

So I returned it. It'll mix your signals alright. Maybe if I had a stronger amplifier it would have been fine, but I love the little T-Amp, so between them the Rolls mixer lost, and back it went.

4Great product, but significantly attenuates the signal.Dec 16, 2009

This mixer did exactly what I wanted it to: took audio from multiple RCA sources and combined them to a single output. It does significantly attenuate the output, so you'll either have to turn your sources up to a high volume or amplify the output, but it works exactly as you'd expect.

4Nothing fancy, but worked for me.Dec 11, 2011

I've had one of these tiny little boxes for some time now and use it to mix all the audio sources I have in my home office (one or two PCs, an old TV, and an Apple Airport Express) to one pair of powered speakers. Clearly none of these are "audiophile" level sources, but the MX42 is small and simple and the adjustments allowed me to balance the slightly different levels from each device. Maybe I'm not seeing the attenuation issue mentioned by other reviewers because of the power from the sources I'm using and the powered speakers. The only minor downside is the RCA inputs need cables that aren't as common nowadays, but Rolls does have other mixers. This is just the one I found at the time that was a decent price.

1WorthlessJul 05, 2007

I bought this unit to mix the output from my GPS unit and my iPod. I have an aux port on the back of my radio. When either device is attached to the radio via the RCA leads the sounds is perfect. I would like to be able to use both at the same time; to hear the GPS info and listen to the iPod's music.

This little mixer had such signal loss that I had to crank the radio hear either device. The signal noise at that volume level was annoying.

This product is worthless. Don't buy it.

4Not what I was hoping for, but maybe I was wrong...Jan 02, 2007

I was looking for a device that could take multiple RCA inputs, boost their volumes, and then output via RCA as well, in order to increase the audio from my digital TV recorder to the computer where I grab clips. The connections were right on this unit, but it couldn't amplify the signal. I suspect I need an amplifier...
