3You get what you pay forMay 05, 2008
By RICHARD THOMAS "An eclectic pleasure seeker"
BUYER BEWARE! These are being offered at a low price because they are actually 18/0 stainless steel, not 18/8 as Amazon specs incorrectly state.

The numbers 18/0 and 18/8 refer to the percentage of content of chromium and nickel. To be classified as stainless steel, the metal must contain at least 11% chromium (no nickel required). Stainless steel used in cookware is normally 18% chromium and 8% to 10% nickel.

Low end stainless steel cookware, mixing bowls, stockpots and accessories are usually 18/0, which are usually not highly polished, and could be subject to some rust spotting.

4Wish I could give it 3-1/2 stars - okay but not what it wasAug 15, 2009

This is the third time I have purchased this pattern, the first two times having been a number of years ago. It is very similar to my sterling pattern, International's 1810; but as the price of silver increased over the years, I could not afford to add to my sterling. Boston Colonial was attractive and affordable for our growing family.

I went ahead and purchased it again in spite of negative comments here because I needed it for a visit from children and grandchildren. The set is basically attractive, and I have found that differences between the new set and my old set are not readily apparent in normal use. However, I agree with those who are disappointed in the downgrade of this pattern. Pieces feel lighter, particularly the knives, and the effort to make the knife handles look as hefty as their predecessors is unfortunate.

I have had the set only about a month so can't really assess its durability. However, so far I don't notice many scratches; and I am washing it in the dishwasher without seeing any corrosion.

2Box says 18/0 not 18/8Jan 02, 2008

I ordered this set because Amazon specs say it's 18/8 steel. However, when I received it, the box says 18/0 which is much lower quality. The pieces look really nice, and I wonder if maybe the box is wrong. Can't know so I'm sending it back.

5Same great quality, slightly different designMay 02, 2008
By C. C. Emmons "greenness"
I purchased the same style about 10 years ago and love it but I needed more silverware so I ordered another set.

The new set is still the same high-quality but the design is ever so slightly different. The knife handle is narrower and some of the contours on the handles are more contoured than before.

So don't expect to match your old set of Colonial Boston stuff perfectly, but it mostly matches. It all looks the same in the drawer. :)

2Buy only if you like rustFeb 18, 2011
By Joseph Vartanian
I purchased this set because I loved the design and trusted the Oneida brand. When I got the set, I liked the look, feel and weight of the flatware. Unfortunately, I noticed quality problems immediately, since three of the pieces had a black residue on them that would not wash off. It got worse, when after only a few weeks of use, about half the pieces had started to rust. This wasn't tiny little rust spots, but a significant amount of rust on many of the pieces.

I ended up exchanging the set for another one, thinking that I just got a bad one. After only a couple of weeks, this second set also started to rust. I treated both sets with care. Everything is hand washed with warm water, mild dish detergent, and a soft sponge immediately after meals, then dried with a cotton towel. There is absolutely no excuse for why this flatware should be rusting if it was real stainless steel.

It's too late to return these now, so I'm stuck with them. That said, I'm not going to eat out of rusty spoons, so I'm now looking to get me a another set that's actually made of real stainless steel. I'm giving it 2 starts instead of 1 only because it is a really nice set...before it starts to rust.
