1Quality control is TERRIBLEApr 10, 2007
By Horse Dreamz
I was extremely disappointed that BOTH the 45-piece sets I purchased were defective. There are black speckles, brown spots, even a green spot in the glaze. This is on nearly every single piece. I have contacted Mikasa by their 800 number and was told they were aware of the problem and would send me good sets, but so far nothing has been done. This is creamware and it should be creamy white with no dirty looking spots on it. I love the pattern, the size of the plates, everything but the quality. They really need to address this problem at the factory, and not sell seconds as top quality china!

5I love my new dinnerware set!Oct 21, 2005
By Paula Teichman
This was such a bargain at $199. Not only did I get the service for 8, I also got 5 serving pieces. The set of dinnerware arrived promptly....and the shipping was free. On top of that, I got another discount for spending a certain amount of money. It was a much better bargain than eBay!
One plate had a slight chip. Amazon was wonderful about compensating me for it with no hassles. Since I can buy more pieces to this set, I was easily able to replace the one plate locally with the money refunded to me. Amazon really stood behind the product. I was very well satisfied with the product and service from Amazon. Thanks!

57 years of use later: still beautifulFeb 17, 2009
By Nathan Beauchamp "ConsumerAdvocate"
My wife and i received a set of Italian Countryside Dinnerware for our wedding back in 2000. Nearly eight years later, they are still as nice as the day we received them. We use them daily, and have found the quality to be very high. The only issue we've had is that the handle of one of the coffee mugs has a crack in it that has caused the handle to start to come loose from the mug. Only one of the mugs developed this problem, so I'd say it is an irregularity not a design issue.

I can verify that this is a quality set of dinnerware. If you like the design, you can't go wrong with this set. We also own all of the mixing bowls, large coffee cups and saucers, and two serving trays. All are equally nice and have stood the test of time.

5Finally, no more burned fingersMar 05, 2009
By Laughing Gnome
Like other reviewers, we have had dishes (2 sets purchased in the '80s, one set in the late '90s) that were marked "microwave safe" but still burned fingers when remvoved from the oven. This is apparently not an uncommon problem. Apparently, just because something won't totally melt down in a microwave is not necessarily a good enough reason to put it in the microwave. In doing internet research, I found a list of dishes from a variety of manufacturers that were supposed to be microwave safe...really. The Mikasa Italian Countryside pattern (which I had been looking at for several years) was one of the patterns listed. I purchased one 5-piece setting to try it out in the microwave and was pleased. Now, if you put your hand exactly under where the food was cooked, it does get a bit hot, but that's what any serving piece would do if you put hot food in it--transfer of heat. But, if you pull the plate out of the microwave by the rim, which is what you should do anyway or the mug out by the handle, you should be OK--no oven mitt required. On our previous dishes the rims always got hot, even though there was no food on them. I can't tell you how many plates my husband has dropped over the years. You should note that the dishes may not be as white as they look on your screen. It's really more of a winter white, which is a light creamy white. The price can't be beat for quality stoneware. While I got mine at a low "gold box" price, even at $200, it's only $25 per place setting and that's not including the five-piece serving set. When you add in the free shipping (which arrived very quickly), and not having to go to the store and lug the dishes home it's an even more impressive deal.

5Classic, Understated EleganceMay 21, 2010
By Julia A. Andrews
Purchased this set over 4 years ago and have used daily without quality control, shipping, chipping, absorbing, or discoloring problems. In fact, my husband loads up the dishes in the evening in our dishwasher willy-nilly. Last year I purchased Mikasa Italian Countryside 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4 to add to my set as we were hosting a family stay (including children) for an extended period of time and I didn't want to be constantly loading/unloading the dishwasher. I still receive compliments on the dinnerware. One of the features I really like in this dinnerware is the versatility when setting the table. You can use a wide variety of tablecloths, placemats, floral pieces etc and pull it off without a problem. Although creamy white the edge of the pieces have enough detail to be interesting without being fussy. I have brought a number of complementary pieces without problems.

Plus a couple of other items that are not currently available on Amazon. You can tell from the list I REALLY like this dinnerware.

Enjoy!
