I couldn't believe my good fortune when I finally found this dish. It is impossible to find a SQUARE baker with a lid anywhere and Amazon came through (well, Le Creuset, too). My primary use for this wonderful baking dish is making the infamous "No Knead Bread" in it. With its square shape it yields a loaf that is perfect for sandwich slices. It is easy to clean and can also be put in the dishwasher. I am very happy with it - there are numerous uses for it!

This baker is a generous 4" deep and the lid creates another inch or more. The lid does not fit tightly, but this is fine with me. If I need to steam or keep really hot, I'll just put a little piece of foil between the dish and lid. The lid not fitting too snug is nice because it helps browning, but can dry out your foods if not careful. Beautiful, heavy, easy to clean and worth the money. It's a big fabulous baker to take from oven to table, then to fridge and all over again!

First one arrived broken. No big deal, Amazon made the return quick and easy. Here's the problem. When we received the replacement we noticed that the lid and casserole don't match up perfectly. We thought this was a defect since le crueset products are top of the line and typically have a tight lid to base seal which is part of what makes them so great. Before returning this one too we did some research and found that this piece was not defective. Even on le cruesets website you can see this lid base gap in the photos, but only from the right angle and on specific colors. Most le crueset products are top of the line pieces that will cook beautifully and last a lifetime and then some. This piece is not one of those. It is a brittle, breakable, sloppily made piece. Most le cruesets are expensive but worth it. This one is not.

I have a bundle of the cherry Le Creuset, and my mom broke this piece... so I had to maintain my bundle complete and ordered an spare one... great to serve meals on special ocasions...
