mmmmmm fresh pasta!Jul 31, 2010 I used to use a handcrank pasta machine, this has made things exceedingly easy. Good solid build along with the power of your kitchenaid mixer, makes it really easy to make fresh pasta. I use it on a weekly basis.
AWESOME... if you have no counter space.Jul 30, 2010 I purchased this 5 years ago and rave about it. Save your cash and don't buy the other two pasta attachments.
The roller is the best, though you could learn to roll your noodles with a wide dowel if you have the counter space. The attachment will thin the dough well, if your dough is well made, via several consecutive passes with thinner plate settings. 3 passes and you get great sheets. BE SURE TO FLOUR YOUR SHEETS. Putting unfloured sheets through the cutters will make headaches. I'd suggest sprinkling flour in all phases of pasta creation with these.
If you want to make thick egg noodles and ravioli, I recommend going cheap and old fashioned: roll the dough with these, use spaced wheel dough cutters, or for ravioli just spread filling on 1/2 of a sheet and use a ravioli rolling pin, then a dough cutter or knife.
With care, these three will make you excellent pasta noodles forever.
I don't think I would make pasta without itJul 21, 2010 I can't imagine using a manual hand crank machine to roll and cut pasta dough...
I rolled through setting 1 up to 10 or so times until the dough looked good to me.
Making the pasta with the paddle and hook didn't go so well for me but I would attribute that to me being an amateur rather then a problem with the machine or recipe.
All in all it performed just as I expected.
You will love being hands freeJul 20, 2010 I have a hand cranked pasta machine and although it was easy to use... this was so much better. You can be hands free in feeding the machine. It was so much cleaner and thanks to the horsepower of my kitchenaid.. supper fast.
works greatJul 17, 2010 I've waited a long time to finally buy these pasta making attachments. I thought about buying a separate pasta maker with a motor, but the KitchenAid mixer works so well, I thought I'd try these.
I've made pasta twice with them using Mario Batali's recipe. The pasta turned out unbelievably delicious both times and it was not difficult to do. The attachments were easy to figure out and worked perfectly out of the box. I have absolutely no complaints and I am glad I finally invested in this equipment. I expect them to last many years.
