WorksMay 30, 2008
By D. Barker Since most reviews here may leave a person wondering, hopefully this one will help.
This blade does what it is supposed to do, in that if you put ice cubes that are not too big (I use cubes from the ice maker in the refrigerator), then this thing will crush the ice very well. I don't need to add any water to make this happen. However, if you are looking to be able to make a larger size of crushed ice, then this may not work. This blade makes a fine crushed ice pretty quickly. I don't know if you can stop the action in a way to control how big you want the ice. I also don't know how much ice you can put into the blender and get a good consistency. I didn't put in a whole lot since I know blenders don't do well with a lot of product in them of certain types that won't circulate well, such as ice all by itself.
To the complaints about the oil: Yes there is oil on the blades when you get this. It's better than rust, which is what you would get if they were stored after manufacturing without the oil. Do you think these blades are manufactured on a regular basis? These aren't stock blades for the blender. Don't blame some middle man, such as whoever you are buying it from for not cleaning the product before shipping it. The vender is not displaying these on some shelf in a department store.
Hope this helps.

tough bladesJul 18, 2007

These blades and the osterizer I bought at a garage sale are the best product I've ever found for crushing ice. Some liquid is required, of course, as in any blender, but it really makes a very fine frappe.
I was happy to find these blades online, as I couldn't find them locally. It makes a sugar free fat free protein chocolate "frosty" for about 160 calories that rivals those you find in fast food joints. Also dreamsicle shakes come out great. You can make a smoothie without the fruit, just ice and flavorings, because the blades really crush the ice very finely. To get the texture creamy, though, I use a thickener-- a teaspoon of vegetable gum that I also get online from nettrition.
My only complaint about this product is that I don't recall being told in the ad that a rubber ring gasket came with it. I wouldn't have bought a pack of three of those if I'd realized that.
Also, I advise caution with these blades. They are extremely sharp. I cut my finger just by touching the tip of one. I didn't even grab it-- just touched. This product definitely needs to stay in a child-proof cabinet when not in use, and out of their reach at all times.

Great bladeSep 06, 2007

Have an Oster Center with blender. Was having difficulty crushing ice, and thought I needed a new, more powerful blender. There are "original" blender blades which says it can crush ice, but this blade is specifically made for that purpose and works much better. For the cost of replacing the "original" blade with this I have a blender which works better than before.
