Dutch Oven ExplodedSep 23, 2011
By Jess I had this Dutch Oven for 2 years when the inside layer of Enamel exploded all over me and my daughter while we were cooking. Had oil in the pot over med heat when it started smoking and suddenly burst into tiny slivers of sharp enamel and drops of hot oil. We got several minor burns and nicks from the incident. I do not recommend this product. At all.

Calphalon Enamel 8 qt Dutch Oven - Cabernet ColorFeb 14, 2008
By James V. Snowden Recently received and used the product. This is my second Calphalon dutch oven. I have a number of other Calphalon cookware products and have had generally good to excellent experience with the products after several years of use. Purchased this one because of design and reasonable price compared to the very high cost of the product from the major, and most famous, French manufacturer. The 8 qt dutch oven is quite large and heavy, but this is necessary for cookware of this type. The design is fits well in all settings , but I think is particularly sharp in a contemporary style kitchen. It does its' job well. The finish is rich and it cleans up well with a non-abrasive scrubber pad or Bartender's Friend. I have made a large batch of chili twice, several Indian casserole type dishes, and oven baked a chicken. All turned out very well. I have no complaints to date. Would definitely purchase again and recommend to others who are seeking a good product at the 'sweet spot' price. There are cheaper acceptable choices (see Cook's Illustrated review 2007) and much more expensive good choices if you wish to spare no expense.

Great pot for a great priceJan 12, 2008
By busy mom My husband got me this dutch oven for Christmas, and I love it. So far I've only used it for chili and soup--haven't yet tried it in the oven, but I'm sure it will work great for roasting as well. The price is much more affordable than the Le Crueset ones I've been coveting...

Well where else can you buy a enamel coated dutch oven this large for this price? If you go the french brand your looking at at least 270.00 and it is not even 8 quart. I have owned this dutch oven for 2 years and it has pulled off amazing dinners. Everything from pot roasts, chicken dumplings, stews, chili, and more. From browning, boiling, basting, and my favorite...brazing..it all comes out great. It is my go to pot for sure! On the stove, to in the oven, to the table. It is heavy, so that is the only drawback...but its due to this weight that everything cooks so evenly and perfectly.
After 2 years of HEAVY use (did I mention I use it a lot!), the lid handle did develop a chip in the enamel. I quick RMA from the website, I sent the very well used 8QT back under lifetime warranty, and presto a brand new one arrived at my door 2 weeks later. Wow that is service!
If weight is an issue then get the 5 QT (I have both) and its great for smaller meals and is just as great as its big brother.
These are getting harder to find...so get one and you wont regret it.

No problems with mineFeb 16, 2012

I happened to get this as a floor model on clearance, with a coupon, while buying my full set of Calphalon pans and getting free "extras" (KILLER DEAL!!). It did have a few chipe by the handle and the rim from people not handling it with care in the store. I was skeptical about it chipping more (I just read the reviews of the smaller model of Calphalon). I have had it for over 2 years now, and there have been no problems with it whatsoever. It cooks amazingly, and has been durable. The only thing I have to say, is if I do not dry the chipped areas, they will get a little rusty, but I can live with that. I would highly recommend this pot for the price.
