It will rust.Nov 24, 2010
By try/star Good design, poor material choice. This brush feels great and dose a super job reaching one's back, legs, etc. Helps remove dead skin and feels invigorating. I would give it 5 stars if only the bristles were not bound by twisted metal wires. The manufacturers should find a way to make these with all plastic.
Unfortunately the wire begins to rust after only a few weeks. It is still effective, in fact I continue to use mine, but the dark center of the otherwise bright, white and clean body brush really puts me off. I don't like seeing rust inside my home.
It hasn't discolored the bristles and does not mess up the tub, but I can see that small, rusted area and it ruins the whole "bathing is about being clean" sensibility for me. Even this small amount of rust is ugly and means I can't keep this brush as clean as I'd like. (I occasionally put a load of things like this, eyeglasses, keys, toothbrushes, hairbrushes, etc., through an automatic dishwasher cycle to sterilize them.)
If you are not slightly OCD, as I am, it won't bother you. But rust does mean it will not last as long as it could, which I think that is wasteful. Products should be durable, if possible/appropriate.
I have tried the wood handled, natural bristle brushes, and find they discolor, turning gray from water exposure, around the holes where the bristles go in. Wood is just not a good choice for something for the body that gets very wet every day. The glue and varnish discolor/chip/ pucker. They invite germ and mold growth more than a plastic brush. Given a choice between mold and rust in the bath, I choose rust.
The all plastic brushes that look like giant toothbrushes have also been unsatisfactory, as they have much too soft bristles to and not nearly enough bristle surface area. The design of this Scandinavian Style brush is far superior, and the bristles are hard enough to be useful. It's only in execution that this design fails.
I go into such detail with this and other reviews because I wish the makers would read such responses and improve their products. Perhaps very unlikely, but I wish it would happen. If this brush were all plastic I'd have raved something like "Try this once and you will love it so much you will never want to be without it!". It really does a great job and feels so very good.
This may sound weird, but a better choice for me is "OXO Good Grips Premium Grooming for Horses.- Equestrian"! On Amazon for $6.99. It Lasts, won't rust, nice ergonomics, fits hand well. It comes clean and need never touch a horse. Who's to know?.
